Sometimes I feel like I should write a monthly update on each of my children. You know, like how new mothers write about what their newborns do each month...what they weigh, when they start to eat and roll over and whatnot.
Only my updates would include the ridiculous things my children do/say each month.
Perhaps I should give it a try.
And for part of Chandler's update I would tell the story of how she became trapped in her bra last night. No joke.
Now that the girls are in 4th grade, I bought them a supply of training bras and have told them to start wearing them everyday. It's just a good habit to get into. They take this direction very seriously, this training bra business. Yesterday, Chan was wearing a ruffled skirt, a cami (with a built in bra) AND her training bra. For extra...um, support....I guess???
I'm not entirely sure how this happened, but she decided to take her training bra off FIRST last night instead of the rest of her clothes. Why? I have no earthly idea. Because she's Chandler, that's why, and I guess that should be good enough.
So the child had both the training bra and cami with built in bra stuck - wrapped - around her head...and couldn't get unstuck. She thought if she could just sit on her bed she could untangle herself. So, that's what she tried to do.
Only she ran into the dresser, which then propelled her into the nightstand. She punctured her chin and behind her ear and then slid - bare backed, mind you - down the nightstand onto the floor, in a puddle of tears.
She was injured...from getting stuck in her bra.
Chris beat me in there and was all sorts of sympathetic. Casey ran to get me out of my bedroom and well, let's just say that I was less sympathetic. I couldn't help it. I've taken many training bras and sports bras off in my life and I know how these things can happen and well, its just plain funny when you get stuck in your clothes. So I laughed. Hard. And then Chan started laughing through her tears. And she wanted to call Meme to tell her what had happened. And when she saw the injuries she couldn't wait to go to school today to tell everyone about getting trapped in her, ahem, clothes and falling into the furniture.
I told her she should leave the bra part out when talking to her classmates.
And then she (in all seriousness) said, "Mama, I hope you blog about this, because this one is good."
I'm not sure if I am scarring the children by blogging about their embarrassing moments or if it is helping them see the humor in situations a little more strongly.
Either way, what Chandler learned is that the bra will get you every time.

List
I started thinking about writing this post on the way home from work today and said to myself, (what a wonderful world...no, that's not what I said) "I just need to write a list post today." Because that is how my brain is thinking. In list format. Which then made me think of this...
I'm making a list
I'm making a list of things I must say
For politeness,
And goodness and kindness and gentleness
Sweetness and rightness:
Hello
Pardon me
How are you?
Excuse me
Bless you
May I?
Thank you
Goodbye
If you know some that I've forgot,
Please stick them in your eye!
— Shel Silverstein (Where the Sidewalk Ends)
...and the fact that I love Shel Silverstein. I have found myself quoting him at the most random times before...("I cannot go to school today...")
But that is all COMPLETELY beside the point.
I have quite a few BIG things in the works...and if you are on my facebook friend then you already know that I have been selected as the Friday feature writer on A Little Etsy Love. SUPER excited about it. Like, I wanted to scream out loud and jump up and down and down and do a little (ok BIG) happy dance when they emailed me.
It came at a good time, too, because I was slightly down in the dumpster today. Not dumpster. Dumps. And it was my own fault. Don't you hate it when you do that to yourself?
And now I haven't written a list at all. Imagine that. Humph. Maybe tomorrow.

Cheat Weekend
We are having a cheat weekend. It had to be done. When we spend time at mother's house, we cannot be held accountable. AND we figured since its a holiday weekend, we should do it up right. The funny thing is that we no longer have cheat foods in the house. So Chris had to make a cheat food run to the store.
It dipped below 90 degrees today so we used the oven. :)
Chris made homemade chicken pot pie. (We use the Pioneer Woman's recipe...just in case you were wondering. Talk about ohmygod comfort food.) I made peanut butter cookies. They were perfect - crispy on the edges, gooey in the middle. Yes, please!
I spent some time at the craft table today. These two laid behind me the whole time...
They remind me of the movie Twins, with Danny deVito and Arnold Schwarzenegger. Do you remember that one? Yep, its Ike and Duke. And their eyes aren't really so beady. I used the red eye remover and well, that's whatcha get.

Pool Fort and More!
After work yesterday we ate dinner, packed our bags and headed out to Meme's and Pops' house for an over nighter. It's really the best way to go out there. Mom gets more Meme time in that way and really, Meme time is all that she wants in life.
I am really terrible about taking pictures when we are out at my parents' house. So I vowed that I would do a better job of it this go round. That last approx. 8 minutes this morning.
When I say that my parents' live in the woods, I am really not kidding. The woods, People, the woods.
"Over the river and through the woods..." Yep, that was written about going to their house.
Bikey loves being out there. Like really, really loves being out there. Here he is being a happy, social dog.
What about in this picture? Can you find the two dogs?
The kids decided to build a pool fort using the diving board and every flotation device they could find. It took them most of the morning to come up with this floor plan. What? You don't see the three bedrooms? Sheesh.
Mom made a billion pounds of potato salad and cole slaw. She also made this summer salad - a favorite - watermelon salad - with baby lettuces, Gorgonzola cheese, pecans, and a dressing made with green pepper jelly and rice vinegar. Yum!
We've decided we're going out there once a month. With the kids and the dog and then Chris and I will be having date night...a kidless trip to Target or Home Depot...or maybe even a movie night. :)

Molly, This Post is For You.
Molly. I think Casey might be your child. Look at how she is rockin the fake glasses...
Casey and I were sitting at the kitchen table together the other night. She was working on her science homework. I was, well, alright. I was reading this blog. My kid was wearing her 1950's Halloween glasses from two years ago. She wears them most afternoons while finishing her homework. She loves them and feels smart in them. I think she looks super cute in them.

I Spy
The other day when Quinn and I were pulling into our neighborhood, on our way home from the sitter's, he said,
"I spy, wif my little eye, somefing dat is my house."
Nice try, pal, but I think we might need to work on your strategy a little bit more.
ps. Have you paid a visit to this site before? I think you should check it out. ;)
