Days of Summer

This is the girls with their friend Savannah. They are wild and crazy girls. Note S has a dog on top of her head. This afternoon they have played many rounds of hide-n-seek, we baked brownies (and ate them) and had a coloring contest. They are currently very wrapped up in the Wii.
And here they are actually trying to be normal. Trying.

Yesterday we spent some time outside at the water table with Quinn. (Thanks, Frankie!) It was Q's first experience of standing in the grass. He was VERY unsure about this and kept alternately the foot that he was standing on. That way, one foot was always safe. :)

1 year doc appointment

Apparently, Q is a very proportionate baby. That's what the doc said at least. He weighs almost 24 lbs and is 30 1/2 inches long. Which means he has grown 8 inches this year. :) He had 3 shots today and is kind of crabby. Imagine that. The girls waited in the hall while the shots happened and had a look of horror on their faces when we came out.

We've been off schedule lately, (summer does that to you) , and he didn't sleep well AT ALL last night. Then, he only took a 45 min nap today. Argh!

First Birthday Pictures

Quinn won the award for the studio's best cake eater. He completely demolished his cake. And he loved everything about this photo shoot!

This is absolutely my sweet angel boy!

This is the only picture that I have of him where his hair is actually in place. It is a rare occurrence in the world of Quinn.

I love this outfit. Chris does not.

I really can't wait to see the rest of Frankie's magic. The photo session was seriously an hour long work out. He is definitely all over the place these days! I highly recommend Frankie (and her photog partner, Heather) for any picture needs that you might have - www.stylizedportraiture.com

Whirlwind Weekend

I don't know about anyone else, but so far, summer is kicking my ass. This weekend was our third whirlwind weekend in a row. But, it's summertime and I suppose that is to be expected. The thrill of having Monday and Tuesday to myself was short lived. Wednesday, Quinn and I met mom and the girls at The Forum off 141 to bring the girls home. I wasn't sure how long it would take to get there, so Q and I were a little early and mom was running a little late. It's an outdoor shopping area and by 11am it was already "so sweat" out. We ate lunch at a very cute little Italian place, but my luck in restaurants has hit an all time low. While eating the bread, I chomped right into a grimy piece of metal. It was in ring shape and looked like it came off of a piece of kitchen equipment. Seriously. Thank God it was in my piece and not Quinn's!

Thursday we had Q's pics taken by the wonderful Frankie. (Those pics will be in the next post.) And then we went swimming at the wonderful Miss Rebecca's house. Friday I had my presentation (DONE with grad school!) and then we went back to Frankie/Rebecca's to celebrate Ella's half-birthday. Poor girl was born right after Christmas, so in order to get the full effect of a birthday we also celebrate in June. Friday was also Q's first birthday. It is still hard for me to wrap my head around the fact that he is already a year old.

Saturday we went to Jonah's b-day party and today we went to church and over to Chris's parents house for a little b-day lunch for Quinn. AND we had 3 of the Wylie children spend the night last night. It was amazing that we managed to get 6 kids (ages 10, 7, 7, 6, 4 and 1) and 2 adults, fed, ready and out of the house by 9am this morning for Sunday school.

Quinn, shirtless.

All of the kids scrounging for candy from the pinata.

It's a party!

Chandler and Casey - sweet sisters!

Almost Done!

As you can see, the bookshelves are ALMOST done! All Drew has left to do is finish framing out the top of the last section. And then...done! Chris and I are both so very excited about them. I think that it will be my new favorite room in my house. We're thinking that at some point we are going to need for him to do the other wall for us as well. We just don't have enough room for the books in our life. :)

We had a great (but busy) weekend. Friday night Chris (with his family) took the kids to Chuck E. Cheese. Saturday we left to spend the day at mom's at the pool. It is becoming more and more obvious to me that the girls have a streak of redneck in them. Like when they got in the pool, looked at the rest of us (who were not in the pool) and hollered out, "Who's gonna get in and wrestle up with us?" Really? Wrestle up? Who says that? My redneck children apparently.

Sunday we went to church. We're on a streak now...three weekend in a row...and feeling very proud of ourselves. Then we went over to Emmy and Mark's for a Father's Day celebration. The girls stayed out at mom's and it was kind of nice to only have one child in tow.

Today and tomorrow I am home alone! Q is going to the sitters and I won't get the girls back until Wednesday. I have a ton of little things that I want to get done at the house and so far I am right on track. Yay! Thursday, Quinn is having his 1st b-day pics with Frankie and then some swimming time at Rebecca's. And then Friday is the BIG DAY - I will be presenting my applied project to the faculty (an oral exam, if you will) at UGA to wrap up my Ed.S. God help me. Just thinking about it makes me want to vomit.

Perhaps I will post again tomorrow. I really do have a lot to share, just a bad case of A.D.D. these days. :)

Water Baby

Well, Quinn is a water baby if I have ever seen one! We went swimming for the first time at Aunt Emmy and Uncle Mark's house and he loved every second of it! I am so excited that he is down with the pool! We were hoping that in the next 5 or 6 years that we would put one in at our house, but I'm thinking that it might have to be a little bit sooner than that.

So, since I last blogged, Quinn's mouth is healing nicely. No more bleeding issues and he is back to his regular eating habits...not that I am really thrilled about that since he is eating us out of house and home. A typical breakfast for him is something along the lines of 2 scrambled eggs, a waffle and a whole banana. Seriously. His metabolism must be crazy fast because he is down to 50th percentile for weight (still 90th for height).

The girls have stayed very busy by driving me crazy. Friday was my first day alone with all three of them. This is just a smidge of what my day was like...at noon I put on my oven mitt and pulled out the baking sheet of chicken nuggets for lunch. Quinn was napping and the girls were playing upstairs, so I figured this was the perfect time to get lunch set up and then it would be ready to go. Well, I used my mitted hand to pull out the sheet and place it on top of the stove. It was a little off center on the burners, so I used my unmitted hand to straighten it out. What the hell??? Hello, burned thumb and index finger. I ran them under cold water and then I had to go to the bathroom. It took me approximately 9 minutes to undo my shorts because of my insanely throbbing fingers. As I'm going to the bathroom, the house phone starting ringing, so from the toilet I holler up the stairs to the girls to answer the phone, which they do not do in time before the machine picked up. The caller does not leave a message and instantly my cell phone starts blaring from my purse. I am desperately trying to get my shorts pulled up and fastened, but it will take another 9 minutes to do that, so I race for the phone...at which point cry starts screaming holy hell having woken from his nap. Who was calling? Yes, that would be Chris. See, this is a perfect example of why I should not be the lone adult in charge. I can't even make chicken nuggets without burning myself. A little while later, we headed over to Frankie/Rebecca's for a little swim in the pool and so that I would not be the only adult around.

Saturday was delightful. Chris's mom took the girls to see UP and we ran errands with the boy. Molly came up and spent the night. I stayed up waaaay past my bedtime and knew for sure that it was a poor choice when I had to get up for church Sunday morning. (story about church to follow in a later post) Chris then made Sunday supper for us. Molly stayed and played with the girls (who absolutely adore her). Monday I made a super schedule for us and it kicked my ass. But, there was not a burning incident, we were not flying by the seat of our pants and when the girls began a question with, "When are we going to..." I could say, "Go check the schedule." Awesome.

I have more to say (imagine that!) but feel that I need to get something more accomplished during this time then a 5,000 word blog post. Perhaps there will be more later!

My Life Has Been a Hot Mess

It's true...my life has indeed been a hot mess lately. Since I last posted...

Saturday we had the yard sale. It was a great success! Chris was very pleased and surprised! I, on the other hand, knew that it was going to be terrific all along. After the yard sale we hightailed it over to Emmy and Mark's to celebrate his b-day and to swim in the pool. (pics to post at a later date) Saturday night, Chris's mom took the girls and Jonah back to her house for "Camp Doe Doe" - seriously, tents and they roasted marshmallows in the fire pit.

Sunday we went to church then out to eat at Mama's Boy. Now, I will be the first to admit that I LOVE this place. But, um, not so much after our experience on Sunday. First, they seated us on the back patio. We like sitting outside, but usually out front where everyone, including the waiter, can see us. It began like a normal dining experience...he took our drink order, brought us silverware...and then we waited about 10 minutes for 4 drinks. He put the drinks on the table and went back in without taking out order...So, we waited another 15 minutes. We were now looking at a total of 25 minutes in the restaurant. With 3 kids, two of which had already finished their coloring and one of which was threatening to toss Elmo off the side of the deck. So, I went in and told him that we were ready to order. He was extremely embarrassed and super apologetic and made sure that our orders came out quickly. Apparently they rushed the orders out before they could check for the kinky, wirey hair that made it into my veggie scrambler. Eesh! Yuck! At that point, I was so disgusted by the whole experience that I didn't tell anyone and just stopped eating. Once the rest of the family was finished I then had to go back in to tell them we were ready for our check. It was a sad day for me because now I will not be going back to one of my most favorite restaurants in Athens.

Monday Chris left early to start the Red Clay Writing Project at UGA and I gathered the beasts for a trip out to Meme's. The plan was for us to get there around lunch, swim in the pool all afternoon, spent the night, swim all day on Tuesday and come home Tuesday night after dinner. Well, there was a slight change in plans. The change occurred when my stepdad accidently dropped Quinn, face first, onto the hardwood floor. Now, obviously this was an accident and he was incredibly heartbroken that it occurred, but that didn't change the fact that Quinn had blood pouring out of his mouth...so much so that we couldn't get it to stop and we couldn't figure out where in his mouth the blood was coming from. So, we (me, mom, Quinn and my brother's girlfriend, Ann) made a trip up to the immediate care place 5 minutes from my parents house. They took one look at my 11 month old son, with blood dripping out of his mouth and sent us to the ER - another 20 minutes away. Talk about having heart failure. To make a long story a little bit shorter - he had 4 xrays taken of his head/face to determine that nothing was fractured or broken and told us that he needed to see a pediatric dentist on Tuesday. We were home around midnight. Q woke up about every 45 minutes throughout the night and his mouth continued to bleed. I took him to the dentist yesterday - his front teeth have been pushed back up, but should re-erupt on their own. He also broke the muscle that attaches your lip to your gum - that was what was the cause of the enormous amounts of bleeding. Big sigh. He has a follow up appointment the first week in July.

So, the girls stayed out at mom's to have some swimming time and so that I could take Q to his appointment. I spent the day working on my research project for grad school and tomorrow I am meeting with my principal about media center plans for next year. Should be interesting. All in all, I am thankful that the accident didn't happen on the concrete around the pool, that it happened during the summer and for the fact that now Quinn won't need to have the surgery that the girls had in December. :)

A Boy Who Loves To Eat

This is the face of a boy who loves to eat. There are very (very) few things that he doesn't love - lima beans maybe, but that's all that really comes to mind. He gets SUPER excited when we put him in the high chair. Imagine his disappointment when he realizes that he doesn't always get food while in the high chair...sometimes its just to watch Chris clean the kitchen. But, back to the eating. With his 6 teeth (can you believe that mouth full of pearly whites!) he can chomp his way through any kind of cracker, popsicle, hamburgers, chicken nuggets and lots and lots of fruit. He has also grown to love the camera, which makes my heart sing! Now, if only he could teach his dad to love the camera as well. :)

Books and a Birthday

Now that we have the hole in the wall fixed, we have moved onto other projects. We are having built in bookcases installed (custom made - courtesy of our dear friend Drew) in the front room and have had to take down all of the books and get rid of the 6, 6ft tall shelves that we had in there. So, this is the current state of the craft room. I love living in disaster zones. The rest of the house isn't looking so great these days either because we are having a yard sale this weekend...which Chris is super thrilled about!
We went to Frankie and Greg's last night for a birthday cookout for Kieran (and some how I managed to not get a single picture of the birthday boy). The kids (and adults) had an outstanding time. Here the girls with Aiden and Ella (who decided topless was the way to go).

Quinn - looking a whole lot like Chris.
Did I mention that they had cupcakes with black frosting? Chan kind of looks like Marilyn Manson, wouldn't you say?

Memorial Day 09

Quinn enjoying the warm weather with no clothes on.

The girls enjoying the warm weather in the 63 degree water. Definitely not something I would have done.
