I am about to go somewhere that I have never gone before on this blog. Please feel free to offer up some suggestions. Taking everything out into the front yard and burning it is not a valid suggestion. It was my original inclination, but I checked our HOA book and they are kind of against that sort of thing. Sheesh.
Let me also say that the number 1 and 2 reasons why we bought this house were...
1. The size of the bedrooms. Super big.
2. The size of the closets. Super big.
So really, space should not be a problem for me. But it is. Ugh. In that I (clearly) don't know how to use it properly and effectively. And like Mr. Dyson, I just want things to work properly.
So, here we go....
This is the closet in Chris's office. The room started as a guest bedroom and the closet was for storage. But then Casey moved into this room. So half of the "storage" stuff was then spread to other areas. And then we moved the girls back in together and made this room an office for Chris. And now the closet looks like this...
Oh, Lord, right? My wedding dress is in there. Along with my 1996 prom dress. And the posters from my bedroom in high school. And some stuffed animals and God only knows what else. And something you can't see is that on the wall that the door opens up to is a dresser. With things shoved in it.
Here's Quinn's closet. His room started out as his, then it became Chan's, then it was his again.
Oh, look, its another wedding dress. Its vintage, from the 1940's, that I bought and intended to wear, but it didn't have the dance-ability that I knew I was going to need, so I bought a different dress. And I don't have the heart to get rid of this one. Can we say, "hoarder"? My letter jacket is in this closet, along with my doll cradle that my grandfather made for me that the girls have out grown, and all the girls American Girl stuff.
Really? Are you kidding me? This is the girls' closet. I don't even know where to start in here. No idea. And they can't keep it clean to save their lives. On the wall that you can't see, there is a window, hence the really good lighting in there.
And then there is this...the linen closet. Enough said. Linens for five beds - two fulls, two twins, one king. And towels. And lots of blankets to build forts with and make movie night pallets.
And now for the grand finale. I cringe that I am even showing you this. This is probably the worst place in my house. Seriously. The closet in the master bedroom.
Out of control. And I don't even know where to begin. I feel like I just want to drag everything out of there and burn it all. A good half of the clothes that are in there don't fit me anymore, but I am still holding out hope. That pile by the door? That's the Goodwill pile.
So, that's that. Offer me solutions, offer me alternatives...I promise I won't decline. :)
Perhaps next time I'll share with you the coat closet downstairs and the garage. We don't have a basement. I'm not sure if a basement would make things better or worse for us.
